With the purchase of this article you will receive a golden metal lapel pin with the Emmaus Retreats logo. The Emmaus Retreats, or Emmaus Road as it is known in some countries, is an apostolate of the Catholic religion that was born more than 30 years ago by a director of Religious Education named Mirna Gallagher in Miami. The beginnings of the retreats were supported by Father David G. Russell, rector of St. Louis Parish. In this parish he began everything, and it was where what is now known as the Emmaus Retreats took shape. The withdrawals have their reason in a passage from the New Testament Bible; Gospel reading according to Saint Luke 24: 13-35. In this passage, a town called Emmaus is mentioned, which was a town in Palestine. According to the data in the Bible, Jesus appeared there on the afternoon of his resurrection, and it was on this road to the town of Emmaus that two disciples, Cleopas along with a second disciple whose name is unknown, managed to recognize Jesus and feel his presence. For this reason the Emmaus Retreats bear his name. That is where its logo comes from: An empty cross because Christ has risen and the bread and wine, that space where the Disciples of Emmaus found the risen Jesus.
