Epiphany Catholic Parish
When Epiphany parish was established in 1951, worshipers attended Mass in the Hi-Way Theater on South Dixie Highway until a temporary church now a parish center was built in 1953. The parish’s rapid growth required a larger facility; a second temporary church was constructed by 1955. Plans for a permanent church were postponed because parishioners decided to invest their resources in the construction of a school building. Thus, Epiphany School staffed by Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary from Philadelphia opened in 1953.
Father John O’Dowd succeeded Father Patrick O’Brien and ushered in many changes: the growing number of families prompted the expansion of the fl edgling school. The Second Vatican Council brought about changes to the liturgy, changes that the parish adopted and adapted to, fostering a growth spurt.
The growing parish expanded the school and parishioners participated in a number of outreach ministries. During the 1980s and 1990s, further expansion of the school took place and the parish established a school endowment fund. During this time, the parish also built a church, dedicated in 2002.
