St. Vincent de Paul
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a global nonprofit organization of lay Catholics, founded in Paris in 1833. Today, it serves communities in more than 150 countries worldwide. In the United States alone, it reaches over 4,600 local communities.
The St. Katharine Drexel Conference, established in 2008, is part of this global mission—serving families in need within our local community with compassion, dignity, and faith.
Our Mission
To alleviate suffering and its root causes by recognizing the face of Christ in every person in need, without distinction.
What We Do
At the heart of our work are personal home visits. Two trained volunteers—known as Vincentians—meet families where they are, offering not only material support but also spiritual companionship, guidance, and practical assistance.
Our goal is to restore stability, dignity, and hope—helping individuals and families regain control of their lives and move toward a more secure future.
Our Approach
We focus on two key areas:
1. Preventing Poverty (Opportunity)
Through our Opportunity Program , we provide professional and spiritual support to help individuals grow, find employment, and build sustainable futures.
Weekly sessions at St. Katharine Drexel include:
- Job opportunities and career guidance
- Resume review and LinkedIn profile development
- Interview preparation and strategies
- Networking skills and relationship-building
We empower individuals to overcome challenges, develop confidence, and access new opportunities.
2. Supporting Families in Transition (Out of Poverty)
For families facing immediate hardship, we provide direct assistance through home visits, including:
- Food support
- Help with utility bills
- Employment guidance
- Counseling and prevention of homelessness
Each visit is rooted in compassion, respect, and a commitment to long-term stability.
How We Are Funded
Our work is made possible through the generosity of our community, including:
- Special fundraising events (such as family bingo nights)
- Individual donations
- Monthly church collections (held on the third weekend of each month)
Our Servants: The Vincentians
Our volunteers, known as Vincentians, are the heart of our mission. They serve with love, humility, and dignity—growing spiritually through their commitment to helping others.
We bring hope where it is needed most—serving our neighbors with love for Christ and one another, and helping build a path toward stability, dignity, and renewed purpose.
